A Surprise Proposal Near the High Level Bridge in Edmonton | Matt & Valerie

Edmonton is home to a lot of beautiful engagement shoot locations, one of them being Ezio Faraone Park close to the heart of downtown. I had the privilege of capturing a surprise engagement session that was romantic and easy-going, but also very special. Matt had planned this a few weeks back and wanted it to happen right after their date night at Dolly’s Cocktails, an ultra, pink mid century modern inspired cocktail bar and restaurant. It was the perfect beginning of a memorable night for this soon-to-be engaged couple.

Matt and Valerie have the easiest going relationship, and you can tell they care for one another tremendously and were just beaming with quiet joy. This speaks volumes in their photographs together.

Typically, golden hour provides some of the best lighting. Soft and glowy warm lighting that flatters every subject. Golden hour lighting is reliable as well, so you can achieve beautiful consistent results during this time.

This particular shoot, right adjacent to the High Level Bridge, turned out to be on an overcast evening. Cloud covers provide very soft flattering light, but it can also be a little flat. Fortunately, the light was very soft and moody. There was a soft glow in the sky from the setting sun behind the clouds, so that created a nice moody vibe to the shoot.
Ezio Faraone Park overlooks the Edmonton River valley, and you can watch the High Level Bridge Streetcar, one of Edmonton’s premier attractions, cross the top of the bridge.
